"I’m Julia Wilkinson, a women’s health and movement educator based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
My path here wasn’t a straight line. I spent years as a civil engineer before becoming a mother of three boys. It was pregnancy, birth and the postpartum experience that reshaped everything and drew me toward this work.
I help people reconnect with their deep core and pelvic floor so they can feel good in their bodies again. I also teach menarche education, childbirth education, pre and postnatal exercise, yoga, Pilates, HIIT and strength training, and those threads are far more connected than they first appear. For many women, pelvic floor symptoms are cyclical and shift depending on where they are in their menstrual cycle and their life cycle. They often first surface or intensify during the luteal phase, or as women move toward or into menopause.
When I work with someone, I want their full story, because I know how much can sit underneath these symptoms. Pelvic issues often trace back to scar tissue, created by trauma to the body, whether that is physical or emotional. That might be from tearing in childbirth, a caesarean, or something carried from earlier in life. Sometimes it is the way someone was treated or healed in those tender early postpartum weeks, or advice they were handed that never really served them. So much can go unspoken, and being truly heard can be the start of something shifting.
That listening matters to me deeply, and it can also give me clues as to what might be happening in your body and which parts of the hypopressives practice will serve you most, because that is different for every single person. When I teach, I bring all of my skills and trainings together, so you are getting an experience shaped entirely around you.
These days I find myself bringing that same engineer’s mind to women’s bodies, looking at how all the parts work together and where the support is missing. Our bodies are so beautifully designed. Often they just need the right conditions to do what they already know how to do."
